The future Wisconsin Badger had 26 points, 10 assists and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer against Totino-Grace

With all of the hubbub Brad Davison generated during the football season — the Maple Grove senior quarterback was the Star Tribune’s Metro Player of the Year — it might have been easy to forget that his best sport is basketball.

He reminded everyone of that with a remarkable four-game stretch recently.

The future Wisconsin Badger had 26 points, 10 assists and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer that sent the game into overtime in an eventual 87-84 victory over Totino-Grace. He had 20 points and nine assists in a 93-49 rout of Spring Lake Park and scored 41 points (one shy of his career-high) in an 81-70 victory over Hopkins. He added 39 points as the Class 4A, No. 2 Crimson held off Armstrong 72-64. Davison is averaging 27.1 points per game.

Redhawks rolling

The Mound Westonka boys’ hockey team has hit its stride. After starting the season 2-8, the Redhawks had won five of seven through Tuesday, with one of the losses being 5-4 in overtime against rival Orono.

One key has been the offensive emergence of captain Patrick Kelly. The senior defenseman was scoreless through the first 10 games of the season but has five goals and 11 assists during Mound Westonka’s surge.

JT Larson at nationals

JohnThomas Larson, the state’s No. 1-ranked boys swimmer who has committed to the University of Texas, spent last week at the U.S. Pro Swim event in Austin, Texas.

Larson, considered a candidate for the 2020 Olympic team, swam in six events. His best finish was 11th in the 200-meter butterfly, but winning wasn’t his goal.

“I had the opportunity to swim against the nation’s best,” said Larson, who competes in prep events for Minnesota Online High School. “It was a great opportunity to see where I am at this point.”
