Mark Johnson and Sierra Moulton named to head U18 NIT Team

Mark Johnson and Sierra Moulton have been selected to coach the U18 NIT team at the Minnesota Hockey High School National Invitational Tournament in April. The tournament sponsored by CCM and Minnesota Hockey will include teams from Wisconsin, North Dakota, Michigan and the Minnesota Seniors. The event will take place at Braemar Ice Arena in Edina, April 20-23, 2017.

Twenty players will be selected from the MGHCA U18 Festival to represent Minnesota at the NIT event. The bios for the coaches are below.

Mark Johnson

Mark Johnson has been coaching for the past 16 years.  He is currently the Head Coach for the Lakeville South Cougars.  He led Lakeville South to the Class AA State Tournament last year in his first year as their head coach.  Mark has coached in several Minnesota Hockey and MGHCA programs over the years including the Minnesota Hockey High Performance 16’s and 17’s where he has been a Section General Manager for 6 years.  Mark has also coached at Richfield High School (Boys) and Hill-Murray High School (Boys) and Lakeville High School (Girls.)

Mark played High School hockey at Richfield High School, graduating in 1986.  He played in the Maroon and Gold All Star series for the top seniors in Minnesota and on Team Minnesota in 1986. He then played on the St. Paul Vulcans for a year and at University of Wisconsin-Superior for four years from 1987-1991. 

Sierra Moulton
Sierra grew up in Apple Valley where she played youth hockey and as a 8th grader made the Apple Valley High School Varsity team.  She played for Apple Valley from 8th grade through her sophomore year.  She then joined the Minnesota Thoroughbreds U-19 team during her junior and senior years of high school.  She was an assistant captain for the Thoroughbreds during the 2007-2008 season.  Sierra went on to play Division I hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on a full scholarship.  She earned All-Rookie Team honors during her freshman year.  She then graduated with a degree in Business Management and a minor in Psychology in 2012.  Sierra then started her coaching career with the Thoroughbreds, where she served as an assistant coach for two years.  She is presently an assistant coach with Lakeville South where she is in her second year as a coach.
