The Trojans' Alec Underhill scored with 34 seconds left and Reid Sanders' extra point was the difference.

Alec Underhill plunged across the goal line for a two-yard touchdown and Reid Sanders’ extra point with 34 seconds left in the game gave Wayzata a 21-20 victory over Hopkins.

The Trojans (2-4) got the ball at their own 20-yard line with 3:07 left in the game after forcing the Royals to punt. Gavin Baumgartner led the Trojans down the field 78 yards to the two-yard line mostly with his arm. The senior quarterback completed six of 11 passes on the drive for 69 yards. He also ran for six yards on the drive.

Four different Trojans caught passes on the drive, with Alex Jensen making two of the biggest plays. His catches helped Wayzata convert first downs on third-and-10 and fourth-and-4.

Hopkins (3-3) turned a seven-point halftime deficit into a six-point lead on a pair of big plays in the second half. Matthias Harris put the Royals ahead on a fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. However, a missed extra point later proved to be the difference in the game.

The Royals tied the game at 14-14 in the third quarter on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Morgan Holmes to Malik Lofton.

Hopkins scored first on a 62-yard touchdown run by Jadon Washington in the first quarter.

Baumgartner connected with Brandon Bluford on a 35-yard strike for Wayzata's first touchdown. Luke Cranny returned an interception 42 yards to give the Trojans their first lead of the game.
