As the regular season winds down, district contenders are beginning to separate from the pretenders. That has certainly been the case in the Suburban District Red Division, as two frontrunners have emerged.
Spring Lake Park, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A in the Associated Press state high school football polls and fresh off a state tournament appearance, has looked sharp. The Panthers currently share the top spot in the league standings with Robbinsdale Cooper through five weeks of play.
These two teams are set to meet in the regular-season finale, which could determine the league champion. But before that, Spring Lake Park has a road bout with Robbinsdale Armstrong, a team just one game back in the standings and fresh off back-to-back victories.
While a Panthers' victory would inch the league one step closer to a winner-take-all matchup with the Hawks on Oct. 19, the Falcons could disrupt plans by winning their third consecutive game. With plenty riding on the outcome of this matchup, we've made it our Top Game of the Week.
