Class 5A
With last week’s No. 1 St. Michael-Albertville’s 43-6 upset at the hands of Elk River, the entire Class 5A poll received a huge shakeup.
After coming in at No. 5 last week, Elk River was voted the top team in the Associated Press Minnesota State High School Football Polls with four first-place votes and 80 total points. The Elks host a Buffalo team coming off a 36-0 loss to Rogers this Friday
Spring Lake Park ranks second with 77 points, up from third last week. The Panthers are just out of the top spot, but need a win over DeLaSalle this week to stay among the top teams in Class 5A.
At No. 3 is Mankato West with 75 votes, though the Scarlets did received four first-place votes. Dropping down from No. 2 this week despite 58-15 win over Austin, Mankato West is in the mix for the top team in 5A. The Scarlets clash with Rochester Mayo this Friday, where one team’s undefeated record will be ruined.
Mahtomedi remains steady at No. 4 and is the only team not to move in the Class 5A poll this week. The Zephyrs are coming off a 38-6 win over Hill-Murray last week (the third time in four games that Mahtomedi has allowed seven points or less), and they look to keep building the momentum when hosting Hastings this week.
Chanhassen checks in at No. 5 and received one first-place vote after a 47-27 victory over Richfield last week. The Storm pits their offense, which averages 338 rushing yards, up against Orono this week.
Class 6A
Totino-Grace is in the driver’s seat in Class 6A. The Eagles are nearly the undisputed No. 1 team in Class 6A -- they received six of seven first-place votes and 69 total points. Totino-Grace’s 36-7 win over Osseo last Friday earned them an extra first place vote from last week, but the Eagles have a tougher test this Friday, when they visit Blaine on the road. The Bengals were No. 5 last week, but fell from that position after a 34-30 loss at Champlin Park. A win this week would catapult the Bengals right back into Class 6A's elite.
The only other team to receive first-place votes in this week’s poll is No. 2 Lakeville North. The undefeated Panthers head across town to face Lakeville South, which has one win to its name. Of course, everyone knows anything can happen in a rivalry game.
Eden Prairie remains No. 3 with 54 points after a comfortable win over Maple Grove last week. The Eagles will have their second ranked-matchup of the season this Friday when hosting Lake Conference rival Minnetonka.
Undefeated Rosemount checks in at No. 4 for the second straight week after allowing only a safety in their win at Lakeville South last week. Look for the Irish to remain in the top five next week as they face winless Eagan this Friday.
Cretin-Durham Hall rounds out the top five with 44 points. They need a win this week against No. 7 East Ridge to hold their newfound top five spot.

Class 4A
After spending last week at No. 2, South St. Paul is back on top in Class 4A. The Packers were knocked out of first last week by Hutchinson, but a 26-0 win over Hastings was enough to get them back on top with 94 total points.
Hutchinson, meanwhile, fell from first to second after a 36-13 win over Delano last week. The Tigers received four first-place votes, one fewer than South St. Paul, and 91 points. Hutch’ hopes to maintain its perfect record against East Central District South Division foe Dassel-Cokato (1-3) this week.
With one first-place vote and 82 points, Marshall checks in at No. 3. The Tigers have averaged an impressive 53.25 points per game this season, so Marshall looks to have the offensive edge over Worthington (3-1), this week’s opponent, which has only outscored its opponents 91-57 this season.
Rounding out the top five is No. 4 Fridley and No. 5 Mound-Westonka, who received 68 and 54 points, respectively.
Fridley moves up one spot after a 35-0 win over Minneapolis Washburn last Friday. The Tigers will have to put on an impressive performance if they want a win against St. Croix Lutheran this week, the top ranked team in Class 3A.

Class 3A
St. Croix Lutheran continues its reign atop the Class 3A rankings, receiving five of seven first-place votes and 75 points overall. The undefeated Crusaders topped St. Anthony 49-12 last week, their most lopsided win of the season. But with a matchup with No. 4-4A Fridley looming, St. Croix Lutheran will need to earn a big win to keep their undefeated record intact.
With a pair of first place votes and 68 points, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton comes in at No. 2. The Rebels maintained the second position in the class 3A poll for the third straight week after picking up a 20-12 win last week on the road over Hawley, but Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton will need to come out on top against No. 2-2A Burnsville this week to stay near the top of the rankings.
Jackson County Central replaces Fairmont at No. 3 this week after Fairmont was upended 50-14 by Marshall. The undefeated Huskies received one first-place vote and host a Windom team that is coming off of a 47-0 win over Martin County West last week, its first win of the season.
Rounding out the top five is Rochester Lourdes and Litchfield.
Litchfield rises from ninth to fifth this week after the Dragons (4-0), topped Cassel-Dokato 29-8 on the road last Friday.
Class 2A
Caledonia is No. 1 in Class 2A for the fourth straight week, earning six first-place votes and 69 points. Winning by an average of 26 points per game, the defending 2A champions haven’t really been tested yet this year, but that will change this week when the Warriors go up against undefeated Zumbrota-Mazeppa this week, who also found their way into the Class 2A poll.
Barnesville is in the No. 2 spot with 63 points and one first-place vote. The Trojans have scored at least 58 points in each of their last three games, but face a strong opponent this week in No. 2-3A Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
Pillager rose from sixth to third in this week’s poll, thanks to a 49-6 win at Blackduck. The Huskies hope to keep the momentum building in another road matchup this week against Lake Park-Audubon.
Undefeated teams Redwood Valley and Eveleth-Gilbert rank fourth and fifth with 48 and 36 points, respectively. Eveleth-Gilbert has shutout each of its past three opponents, and the Golden Bears could really improve their resume with another shutout of this week’s opponent, Two Harbors (3-1).

Class 1A
Minneota is No. 1 in Class 1A for the fourth consecutive week, receiving 80 points and all eight first-place votes. The Vikings’ balanced offense (142.2 passing yards per game and 293.8 rushing yards per game) will hit the road to face Murray County Central (3-1) this week. The Rebels are no slouches, but they are coming off of a 18-8 loss to Adrian.
Minneapolis North is again the second-place team with 71 points. North’s defense hasn’t allowed more than 15 points in a game this season, but their streak will be tested on Friday when the Polars face off against a St. Paul Central team that has averaged 40 points per game.
Checking in at No. 3 is BOLD, with 55 points. The undefeated Warriors have matching wins of 26-0 in each of the past two weeks. Can they make it a third against Montevideo, which is coming off of a 24-0 loss to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City?
FInishing out the top five is Rushford Peterson at No. 4 with 47 points, and Hinckley-Finlayson in fifth with 43 points.
Hinckley-Finlayson wasn’t even ranked last week, but an unblemished record and a 28-7 win over Rush City last week catapulted them into the top five.
9-Man
Grand Meadow is again the top team in 9-Man, with 4 first-place votes and 54 total points. The Superlarks put up 78 points last week in a win over Lycle-Pacelli, their largest margin of victory all season. Don’t be surprised if they top that point total this week when hosting West Lutheran (0-4).
Spring Grove checks in at No. 2 with 51 points and one first-place vote. The Lions are another team that has put up a lot of points this year, outscoring the opposition 119-16. Spring Grove needs a win over South District East Division opponent Randolph this week to keep pace with Grand Meadow atop the division standings.
Waubun is third in 9-Man with one first-place vote and 47 points. After allowing 21 points in a week one win, the Bombers defense has settled in, allowing a combined 12 points in each of its last three games.
Cleveland is No. 4 with 42 points after consecutive shutout victories, while Edgerton-Ellsworth rounds out the top five in fifth with 30 points.
