Offensive Player of the Week Candidates:

Rylie Sheridan, Fergus Falls RB, senior: Sheridan ran wild against East Grand Forks to help the Otters move to 4-0 on the year. He finished with 322 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries (15.3 yards per carry) and now has 747 rushing yards through four games.

Nik Thiel, Stewartville WR, senior: Thiel reclaimed the state lead in receiving touchdowns with a four touchdown outburst in a 33-28 win against previously unbeaten Kasson-Mantorville. The senior finished with eight catches and 188 yards and now has 510 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns in just four games. Michael Floyd holds the state record for receiving touchdowns in a season with 17.

Andrew Goergen, Caledonia WR, junior: The other player creeping up on Floyd's nine-year-old record is Andrew Goergen, who kept pace with a four touchdown game of his own. Goergen caught 10 passes for 197 yards and has 10 receiving touchdowns on the year.

Nick Rice, Elk River RB, senior: Elk River flipped Class 5A upside down with a 43-6 win over defending state champions St. Michael-Albertville. Nick Rice led the way shredding the STMA defense to the tune of 17.5 yards per carry, finishing with 12 carries for 210 yards and two touchdowns.

Isaac Hennen, Minneota RB, junior: Minneota's now 32-game winning streak likely would have ended without the heroics of Isaac Hennen. The junior RB ran for 262 yards and four touchdowns, including the overtime winner in a 34-28 victory over Dawson-Boyd.

Tanner Teige, Big Lake RB, senior (winner): Teige scored all five Big Lake touchdowns, four on the ground and one through the air, in a 34-25 win over North Branch. Teige finished with 39 carries for 294 yards and one catch for 18 yards.

Chris Backes, St. Cloud Tech QB, senior: The resurgent Tigers got another huge performance from their senior quarterback as they moved to 4-0, passing their 2015 win total. Backes went 28-for-43 passing for 339 yards and three touchdowns and carried the ball 22 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-21 win over Rocori. Backes has 1,010 passing yards and 12 passing touchdowns on the year.

Joe Hird, Bloomington Jefferson WR, senior: Hird hauled in nine passes for 213 yards and scored all three Jefferson touchdowns in a 22-0 win over crosstown rival Kennedy. Hird has 33 catches for 564 yards through four games.

Brandon Alt, Park of Cottage Grove QB, senior: Alt went 7-for-12 passing for 219 yards and touchdown but did most of his damage on the ground in a 69-32 blowout win over Tartan. The senior quarterback rushed 14 times for 153 yards and four touchdowns as the Wolfpack offense continued to roll.

Kevin Durham, Sibley East RB, junior: Durham finished with 334 yards rushing on 20 carries and scored six touchdowns as the Sibley East offense scored over 50 points for the second straight week, beating Mayer Lutheran 53-30.
