Class 6A

For the third straight week in the Associated Press state high school football rankings, Totino-Grace is No. 1 in Class 6A. The Eagles have put together an impressive resume this season, knocking off Eden Prairie and outscoring its first three opponents 93-27. However, a road win Friday over last year’s Class 6A champion Osseo would really add some fuel to the fire—although, Totino-Grace already has five first-place votes and 59 points in the poll, so how much bigger can this fire get?

Lakeville North remained in second place, receiving one first-place vote and 55 points overall. The Panthers have only allowed two touchdowns in their last two games at home, but they’re on the road this week to face Farmington (1-2).

Maple Grove fell out of the No. 3 position after being upset at Edina 21-20 a week ago. A failed two-point conversion late in the game cost the Crimson the win but not a spot in the top 10.

Eden Prairie moved into Maple Grove's former position, but the Crimson have a chance to retake it when the host they Eagles on Friday.

At No. 4 is Rosemount with 40 points. The Irish creep into the top 5 after a 45-0 win over Eastview. Victories of that margin will keep Rosemount rising in the rankings, but its poll position next week could be impacted by the outcome of Friday's game with unranked Lakeville South.

Blaine rounds out the top 5, earning 38 points after a sizable 42-14 win at Champlin Park.

Class 5A

The top five teams in Class 5A went unchanged from last week. St. Michael-Albertville is No. 1 with 79 points and seven first-place votes. The Knights haven’t lost since Aug. 22 of last year, but St. Michael-Albertville puts its 12-game winning streak on the line against No. 5 Elk River on Friday. The Elks are seeking revenge for last year’s Section 6 semifinal loss, and it may help that they host this heated matchup. Look for this game to make an impact on the polls next week.

Mankato West checks in at No. 2 with 68 points. The Scarlets take their 28-point margin of victory average into a matchup with Austin (0-3) on Friday.

At No. 3 and No. 4 are Spring Lake Park and Mahtomedi with 63 and 52 points, respectively. Both teams hope to remain undefeated this week while facing a pair of winless opponents.

Class 4A

This week’s Class 4A rankings feature a crown cut in half. South St. Paul’s 14-13 win over Simley last week was not convincing enough for the Packers to retain sole possession of first place. As a result, they now share the No. 1 spot with Hutchinson, with each receiving 83 points. (If you need a tiebreaker, the South St. Paul have six first-place votes to Hutchinson’s three). Expect these teams to continue to duke it out for the top spot down the stretch.

Marshall checks in at No. 3 with 69 points, the same spot it occupied last week. The Tigers face an interesting matchup in No. 3-3A Fairmont this week.

Rounding out the top 5 is Rocori and Fridley. The top nine teams in Class 4A are all undefeated. To stay in the mix in this poll, teams need to stay perfect.

Class 3A

Last week, Fairmont shook up the Class 3A poll with a 19-0 win over top-ranked Tri-City-United. The big win earned the Cardinals the No. 3 slot and 59 points.

Moving into first place this week is St. Croix Lutheran with 71 points. The Crusaders have averaged over 45 points per game this season, but they’ve also allowed 29 points per game. A rushing attack that averages 375 yards per game is what will continue to keep St. Croix Lutheran near the top of the rankings.

Just one point behind the Crusaders is No. 2 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, which received two first-place votes. The undefeated Rebels hope to carry their momentum on the road this weekend when they face No. 10-2A Hawley in a key Midwest District White Division game.

Jackson County Central and Belle Plaine rank No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Belle Plaine hosts Waseca in a South Central District Red Division game before finishing the season with three of four games on the road.

Class 2A

The top five teams in Class 2A remain unchanged from last week, with Caledonia holding down the top spot with 70 points and seven first-place votes. The Warriors won their 17th straight game last week; it’s a streak that doesn’t look like it’ll be in significant danger down the stretch.

Moose-Lake Willow River remains at No. 2 with 62 points after picking up a 36-33 win at rival Esko. The Rebels’ rushing-only offense has worked so far, as Bryceton Butkiewicz and Isaac Riihiluoma have ground down defenses and been rewarded with 369 and 371 yards, respectively.

Barnesville has scored a combined 118 points in the past two weeks, helping solidify the third spot in the poll with 56 points. Eden Valley-Watkins and Maple Lake complete the top 5.

Class 1A

It’s no surprise that Minneota ranks No. 1 in Class 1A. A 46-0 win over Adrian last week only strengthened their stranglehold on the top spot. Minneota sees another ranked team in No. 6 Dawson-Boyd this week, but the Vikings, who have outscored opponents 142-33 this year, clearly excel on both sides of the ball.

Minneapolis North ranked second with 61 points, while Browerville moves up to third this week, replacing Goodhue, which dropped outside the top 10 this week after a 10-7 loss to Fillmore.

9-Man

Grand Meadow is the unanimous No. 1 team in 9-Man. The Superlarks are running on all cylinders after a 61-0 victory over Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons last week.

Spring Grove stays in second with 53 votes, while Cleveland remains third.

In total, these top three teams scored a combined 186 points last week. If recent history can tell the future, these teams aren’t going anywhere.

Finishing out the top 5 is Waubun in fourth with 42 points, and Ederton-Ellsworth in fifth with 30.
