Class 6A

Totino-Grace held down the top spot in Class 6A poll for the second straight week, receiving four first-place votes and 58 points after blowing out Anoka 41-0 last week -- and it’ll take a miracle from Friday’s opponent (winless Andover) to knock the Eagles from their perch.

Lakeville North remains at No. 2 following a 42-7 victory over Eagan, as the Panthers continue nipping at Totino-Grace’s heels with 56 points and two of first place votes.

Maple Grove is third with 48 points, though that may change considering what happens when the Crimson hits the road Friday night to face Edina, which picked up a pair of votes in the poll despite a 21-9 loss to Eden Prairie. Edina’s defense should be a tough test for Maple Grove quarterback Brad Davison, though the Hornets are 0-2 against the Crimson in their last two matchups.

After landing last week in the fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively, Eden Prairie, Blaine and Rosemount sit in a three-way tie for fourth with 34 points each this week. Don’t expect this to remain the case next week, in spite of all three teams facing inferior opponents on Friday.

Class 5A

Defending Class 5A champion St. Michael-Albertville remains the top team in this week’s rankings, receiving eight first-place votes and 80 total points. Though heavy is the crown, as North Central District Blue Division rival and No. 6-ranked Rogers looks to dethrone the Knights on Friday in what will be a battle between two of Class 5A’s top defenses.

Mankato West holds steady at No. 2 for the second straight week after a narrow 28-23 win over rival Mankato East. Look for the Scarlets to be a fixture atop the 5A polls with unranked Rochester John Marshall on the schedule for Friday.

Spring Lake Park is third with 63 points, while Mahtomedi and Elk River are fourth and fifth with 51 and 44 points, respectively.

Class 4A

South St. Paul retained the top spot in Class 4A despite nearly being upset by unranked rival Park of Cottage Grove last week. Receiving 80 points, the Packers lost nine points in the poll compared to last week.

Hutchinson garnered 69 points and remains No. 2 for the second straight, but the rest of the Class 4A Top 10 went through a shake-up.

Marshall received 60 points and shifted up one position to third place (a 42-7 shellacking of Waseca will do that for you), while Rocori earned 57 total points and moved from seventh to fourth.

Fridley takes over the No. 5 spot with 32 points. The Tigers moved up from No. 8 and occupies the ranking that belonged to Benilde-St. Margaret’s last week. The Red Knights fell outside the top 10 following a 30-7 loss to Robbinsdale Cooper

Several teams moved up in the bottom half of poll, including Hermantown -- the lone northern team to crack the top 10.

Class 3A

After a shocking loss to Maple Lake last week, defending 3A champion Pierz is the outside looking in for the second edition of polls.

As a result, there’s little separation between the teams in this week’s top 5 -- with just 11 points separating the No. 1 and No. 5 rankings.

Tri-City United finds itself with 47 points after beating New Ulm 22-6 last week. The Titans defense has been impressive, allowing only 12 points this season — remember them even if they get knocked out of the top spot in the future.

St. Croix Lutheran rises from fifth to second after earning 45 points, while Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton is third with 42 points, though the Rebels received two first-place votes (one more vote than each of the teams above them in the poll).

Proctor is No. 7 and was the only other team to receive a first place vote.

Jackson County Central and Fairmont round out the top 5 with 41 and 36 points, respectively.

With such a tight race, don’t be surprised if the Class 3A rankings continue to shift next week—in fact, expect them to do so.

Class 2A

The top two teams in the Class 2A poll remain unchanged from last week: Caledonia is No. 1 with 50 points and Moose Lake-Willow River is No. 2 with 44 points.

The rest of Class 2A rankings are completely different, as last week’s third-ranked team, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, is out of the top 10 after a 7-6 loss to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

Barnesville and Eden-Valley Watkins each moved up one spot to third and fourth, respectively, while Maple Lake moves from eighth to fifth after upsetting Class 3A Pierz.

Class 1A

Third place is proving to be the unlucky position in the polls as Braham, which held the spot in last week’s Class 1A rankings, also dropping from the top 10 after falling to Crosby-Ironton 29-20.

Minneota remains the top team with six first-place votes and 60 points, and the Vikings face a tough test this Friday against No. 5-ranked Adrian. Minneapolis North hangs on to the No. 2 spot with 51 points.

Goodhue moves up from fourth to third this week, filling the vacancy left by Braham. The Wildcats hope the No. 3 slot proves to be less unlucky as they hit the road to battle Fillmore Central on Friday.

9-Man

Grand Meadow continues its march toward U.S. Bank Stadium, remaining atop the 9-Man rankings this week with 58 points and five first-place votes. Spring Grove moves up to second place with 49 points, while Cleveland falls from second to third with 47 points -- likely because the Wildcats’ 35-34 win over Hills-Beaver Creek wasn’t as convincing as the Lions’ 55-12 victory over Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons. 

Waubun checks in at No. 4 with 44 points, while Ely grabbed the No. 5 ranking with 35 points just days ahead of a rivalry showdown with No. 7 Silver Bay.
