The season kicks off this week for a majority of Minnesota's high school football programs, and teams will be looking for their experienced players to lead the way.

While statistical leaderboards do not measure the intangibles that can make a difference in games, they are good starting points for identifying returning players who have had success in the past.

Four underclassmen who threw for more than 2,000 yards last year are back and looking to build on that success, including Hillcrest Lutheran senior Sean McGuire, No. 4 on the passing list. McGuire will have the No. 5 returning receiver, Reggie Undseth, to rein in passes.

The only returning receiver to cross the 1,000-yard milestone a season ago is Ryan Larson, who transferred from Braham to Cretin-Derham Hall for his senior season. Another big-name transfer is senior Ty'ree Cox, who will be playing for Minneapolis North after amassing 1,201 rushing yards as a junior for Columbia Heights.
