Here's the All-Metro football first-team offense:

Tyler Johnson, Mpls. North football

FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE

Players are seniors unless noted

Quarterback

Tyler Johnson

Minneapolis North, 6-2, 190

Difference-maker scores from anywhere on the field. Before the Class 1A semifinals, he had passed for 2,305 yards, 32 TDs; rushed for 941 yards, 18 TDs. Committed to Minnesota as an athlete, likely will play defensive back.

Running backs

Isaac Collins

Maple Grove, 5-9, 180

Exceptionally quick feet, able to slip through cracks. Tough to tackle, always gets yards after. Rushed for more than 1,800 yards, 22 TDs. Made 55 tackles as a defensive back. Will play baseball at Creighton.

Dominik London

East Ridge, 5-9, 196, Jr.

Style resembles Hall-of-Famer Emmit Smith. With powerful legs, low center of gravity, exceptional balance. Can make tacklers miss and run over them on the same play. Rushed for 2,085 yards, 20 TDs in 12 games.

JD Spielman

Eden Prairie, 5-8, 175

Electrifying on the open field, slippery in a crowd, rarely came off the field. Rushed for 1,135 yards and 18 TDs before the Eagles loss in the Class 6A quarterfinals. Added two TDs receiving, two on punt returns, one on a kick return and two on interceptions as a defensive back. Committed to Nebraska.

Receivers

Damario Armstrong

Osseo, 6-0, 190

The Orioles’ most dangerous and elusive weapon, made catches he’s supposed to and many he shouldn’t. Sixty-five receptions for 940 yards, 13 TDs. Added 67 tackles, three interceptions as a defensive back.

Isaiah Weston

St. Michael-Albertville, 6-4, 185

Prototype wide receiver with a 40-inch vertical leap. Greatly improved his receiving skills. Forty-two receptions for 960 yards, 10 TDs. Dangerous kick returner. Committed to Northern Iowa.

Linemen

Kayode Awosika

Maple Grove, 6-5, 260

Still maturing — just turned 17 — Awosika is an athlete and force on both sides. More than 25 pancake blocks as a tackle. As a defensive end, he forces opponents to run away from his side. Considering multiple Division I offers.

Bennett Helgren

Edina, 6-7, 300

A road grader who physically engulfs opponents. Plays with an edge, always finishes his blocks. Edina coach Reed Boltmann called him “one of the best I’ve ever coached.” Committed to North Dakota.

Patrick Kasl

Forest Lake, 6-5, 290

East Metro Blue offensive lineman of the year. Dominating at the point of attack, he racked up more than 50 pancake blocks. Committed to Wisconsin.

Benn Olson

Burnsville, 6-5, 270

Terrific athlete, three-year starter. Also played defensive line with 79 tackles, seven for loss. East Metro White lineman of the year. Committed to Northern Illinois.

Conner Olson

Monticello, 6-5, 288

A freight train as a run blocker, more than 50 pancake blocks (“he always thought he had more,” laughed coach Jason Telecky). Excellent footwork, good with his hands. North Central White MVP. Committed to Minnesota.

Athlete

Kamal Martin

Burnsville, 6-3, 225

Standout at QB and DB, natural leader. Passed for nearly 900 yards and rushed for 400 in guiding the Blaze to its first state tournament since 1995. Committed to Minnesota, projects as an LB.
