Defensive Player of the Week: Week 7

Defensive Player of the Week Candidates:

Bishop McDonald, North St. Paul DB, senior: McDonald added two more interceptions to his state-leading total, including a timely pick with just 24 seconds left to seal a 34-28 victory over Hastings. The senior DB now has 11 interceptions on the year. 

Kori Randle, Minneapolis North DL, senior: The Minneapolis North defense got three sacks from Randle on their way to 10 total in a 61-0 shutout of Minneapolis Edison. Randle also had three tackles for loss in the game. 

Cory Schmidt, Annandale CB, senior: Schmidt recorded seven tackles, a sack, and an interception in a 28-9 win over Litchfield. He is tied for the team lead in sacks for the Cardinals. 

Chance Bowen, Robbinsdale Armstrong DE, senior: Bowen recorded three of Armstrong's four sacks in a 42-6 rout of DeLaSalle in week 7. He finished with seven tackles in the game and leads the Falcons with six sacks this season. 

Turner Gregg, Esko LB, senior: Gregg recovered a fumble and led all players with 18 tackles in a week 7 loss to Mora. He leads the Eskomos with 55 tackles on the year and is tied for the team lead in sacks. 

Evan Holm, Edina DB, senior: Hoff, a North Dakota commit, recorded four tackles, intercepted two passes, and defended a pass in a 21-20 loss to Wayzata. Holm leads the West Metro - South sub-district with five interceptions.

Andrew King, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton DE, junior: King finished with nine tackles, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in a week 7 loss to Kenyon-Wanamingo. King leads the Bulldogs with four forced fumbles. 

Blake Wacholz, Lakeville South DB, senior: The Cougars topped district rival Eastview 42-21 behind two interceptions and four tackles from their senior DB. Wacholz has 49 tackles through seven games. 

Taylor Snow, Zimmerman LB, senior (winner): Zimmerman's leading tackler added 20 more to his total in a 16-6 win over Little Falls in week 7. Snow has 78 tackles on the season and has recorded double-digit tackles in four straight games. 

Gerrit Olsen, Burnsville LB, senior: Olsen had 10 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception to lead Burnsville to a 20-17 win over previously unbeaten Rosemount. The senior leads the #5 team in Class 6A with 43 tackles.
