Oct. 2: The stingy Hawks defense could be the first to challenge the high-flying Spartans this season.

The path to Orono's undefeated record hasn't been a particularly difficult, but that looks to change this week as they hit the road for a game against Suburban White subdistrict foe Chaska.

The Spartans (6-0, 5-0), ranked No. 3 in Class 4A in the latest Associated Press state high school football poll, can secure at least a share of the league title with a win over the Hawks (5-1, 5-0).

Chaska can do the same with a win over Orono. However, the Hawks haven't been tested since losing to now No. 2-5A-ranked Spring Lake Park 28-21 in the season opener.

Spartans' opponents this season have a combined 14-22 record while the Hawks' opponents are 15-21.

It's gut-check time for Orono and Chaska with the league title race coming down to the regular season's final two weeks and the postseason nearing, and their Week 7 test makes for a great Top Game of the Week.
