Defensive Player of the Week: Week 3

Defensive Player of the Week Candidates:

Max Martig, St. Cloud Tech LB, junior: Martig led the Tigers with 13 total tackles in a 42-28 loss to Bemidji in week 3. He also had the only two sacks for the St. Cloud Tech defense. 

Jackson Dunnell, Lakeville North DE, senior: Dunnell finished with six tackles and three of Lakeville North's seven sacks of Burnsville QB Kamal Martin as the Panthers came away with a 29-18 win in week 3. 

Amani Hooker, Park Center DB, senior: The University of Iowa recruit left his stamp on a big 35-7 week 3 win over DeLaSalle, intercepting three passes and returning two of them for touchdowns. He had interception returns of 65 and 100 yards and added a 64-yard TD run and 11-yard TD reception on offense. The Park Center defense had five takeaways and three defensive touchdowns. 

Payton Bowdry, Minneapolis South DB, senior: Bowdry was all over the field in a dramatic 32-28 win over rival Minneapolis Southwest. The senior had 11 tackles, two sacks and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. He chipped in with 21 carries for 170 rushing yards and a touchdown, and even threw for a touchdown on offense. 

Tony Sylvester, Irondale LB, senior: Sylvester had a monster game in a 26-14 loss to BSM in week 3. The senior had a hand in 21 tackles (12 solo), eight tackles for loss, two sacks, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. 

Gavin Bassett, Farmington LB, senior: Bassett continued his big season, recording 13 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in a 28-21 win over Apple Valley. The senior, who will play at Army next season, has 40 tackles through three games. 

Kieran McKeag, Apple Valley LB, senior: Apple Valley's star linebacker made 17 tackles and came up with an interception in a 28-21 loss to Farmington. McKeag leads the Eagles with 32 tackles through three games. 

Jake Richardson, SMB DE, senior: Richardson was expected to be a key contributor for the newly-formed SMB Wolfpack co-op and he has not disappointed early on. He had eight tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in a 57-26 week 3 win over Harding and now has six sacks on the season. Richardson has D1 offers from Lafayette, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and South Dakota State. 

Cullen Mudrak, Duluth Marshall LB, senior: Mudrak led the Hilltoppers with 18 tackles and the next closest player had five in a week 3 loss to Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin. The senior has 40 tackles through three games. 

Miles Olowu, Breck DL, senior (winner): Olowu led all players with 16 tackles (13 solo) in a 45-28 win over St. Paul Como Park. He also accounted for the two of the three sacks recorded by the Breck defense.
