Late TD propels South

• MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH 32, MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST 28: The lead changed four times in the fourth quarter Thursday before the Tigers seized the victory on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bradley Lewis to Payton Bowdry with 15 seconds to play. South led 16-6 after three quarters, but a pair of rushing touchdowns from Devin Joyce in the final quarter pulled Southwest ahead. Bowdry scored on a 6-yard run with 1:47 left, and Kyle Evans added the two-point conversion to put South back on top 24-22. Joyce responded with his fourth rushing TD of the game to give Southwest a 28-24 lead with 48 seconds remaining. South’s Tanzil Sallahudiin returned the ensuing kickoff to the South 45-yard line to set up the game-winning score.

• LAKEVILLE SOUTH 8, EAGAN 0: Cole Engstrom’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Soda Simphilavong broke a scoreless tie with 5:14 remaining to lift the Cougars to the Metro East White victory. Engstrom, the starting tight end, switched to quarterback after starter Will Heller was injured in the first half.

• ROSEMOUNT 41, EASTVIEW 0: Rosemount’s defense forced eight turnovers, including Tyler Liska’s 55-yard interception return for a touchdown to cruise past the Lightning. The Irish jumped out to a 14-0 lead when quarterback Jared Hanson found Simon Hatlen for a 38-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter. Eastview reached the red zone twice in the first half but turned the ball over on both possessions. Hanson converted the Wildcats’ third fumble of the first half into a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:28 left in the second quarter. Cody Hogan added a 19-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter after Eastview fumbled for the fifth time.

• EDEN PRAIRIE 56, HOPKINS 21: JD Spielman finished with 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and senior defensive back Kal Lunde returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown as the Eagles beat the Royals in dominant fashion. The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A by the Associated Press, scored 41 points in the second quarter and held out the majority of their starters in the second half. Senior running back T.J. Conrad rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown while Alec Hetherington and Hunter O’Bert each had a rushing TD. Junior defensive back Tommy Fuller returned an interception 42 yards for another TD.
