Defensive Player of the Week: Week 2

Defensive Player of the Week Candidates:

Elerson Smith, Minneapolis South DE, senior: The Minneapolis South defense was dominant in a 20-7 win over New Life Academy and Smith played a huge role. The senior finished with 11 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and scored on a 67 yard TD reception. Smith is committed to play at Northern Iowa next season. 

Austin Kincade, Mound Westonka DB, senior: Kincade finished with three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and two tackles, all while covering Columbia Heights' best receiver in a 28-7 Mound Westonka win in week 2. He also returned a punt for nine yards and had three carries for 16 yards on offense. 

Eli Weber, Dawson-Boyd LB, junior: In a defensive battle, Weber led all players with 19 tackles as Dawson-Boyd defeated Canby 12-8 in week 2. Weber chipped in offense as well with five receptions for 75 yards and a TD. 

Alex Johnson, East Ridge LB, senior: Johnson recorded 11 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks to help East Ridge come away with a crucial 28-21 win over district rival Mounds View. Johnson holds a D1 offer from Holy Cross. 

Blake Nelson, Minneota DE, junior: Nelson contributed three tackles, three sacks, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble as Minneota shutout Ortonville 62-0 in week 2. 

Jamahl Johnson, Prior Lake DT, senior (winner): The big man did a little bit of everything as the Lakers shutout Minnetonka 38-0 in week 2. Johnson had eight tackles, a fumble recovery, a blocked punt, and two rushing TDs on offense. He has been receiving interest from multiple D1 schools and currently holds an offer from South Dakota. 

Hunter Petron, Rockford S, junior: Petron led all players with 17 tackles in a 28-12 win over Paynesville and the next closest player had 10. He added a a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. 

Frankie Baker, Becker LB, junior: The #1 team in Class 4A received huge contributions from Baker in a 54-7 win over New London-Spicer. He had seven tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks in the blowout win. 

Amitri Collins, St. Paul Highland Park DB, junior: Collins recorded five tackles and three interceptions in a 19-6 loss to Minneapolis Washburn. He also caught two passes for 25 yards and a TD, which proved to be the only TD the Scots offense could muster. 

Austin Schlenker, Cambridge-Isanti DB, junior: Schlenker had nine tackles and two interceptions to lead Cambridge-Isanti to a 28-17 win over Duluth East. Schlenker, the team's quarterback, also ran for 135 yards and a touchdown.
