Aug. 28: The Lakers and Skippers set sail on a potential new rivalry thanks to district scheduling.

The Minnesota State High School League's new district alignments could result in the development of several new rivalries, including one between Prior Lake and Minnetonka. The Lakers were placed with the five former Lake Conference teams in the West Metro South subdistrict, a move that will undoubtedly produce a challenging schedule for a Prior Lake team coming off 9-2 season.

The Skippers had a meager 4-5 record last year, but were competitive and finished with several close losses. Minnetonka showed it learned from those defeats, holding on for a 8-6 win over Champlin Park in Week 1.

Prior Lake, meanwhile, cruised to a 34-13 win over Centennial in its opener.

The Lakers and Skippers last met in 2003 in a Class 6A, Section 2 playoff game won by Minnetonka 38-21. But with the new district scheduling, the pair should set sail on a new rivalry with the launching point being their matchup in this week's Top Game of the Week.
