Staff writer Jim Paulsen’s opinions on the top prep football teams in the metropolitan area, regardless of class:

1. Eden Prairie (3-0): The Eagles broke the hearts of Eastview faithful, winning 19-15 on a fourth-quarter touchdown by RB Will Rains, who played at Eastview before this season.

2. Rosemount (2-0): After a 21-0 whitewashing of Prior Lake, the Irish can smell the No. 1 spot.

3. Lakeville North (2-0): The defense figured out Shakopee’s old-school Single-Wing offense in a 24-7 victory over the Sabers.

4. East Ridge (2-0): The Raptors rode the passing tandem of Seth Green-to-Kjetil Cline to their first-ever victory over Cretin-Derham Hall, 23-7

5. Maple Grove (2-0): We’ll know much more about the Crimson after Friday at Wayzata, which will be ornery after an unexpected loss to Eagan.

6. Totino-Grace (2-0): The Eagles face their first road test of the season Friday at undefeated Spring Lake Park.

7. Mounds View (2-0): An apology here to the Mustangs, who have allowed just seven points in two games and deserved to be ranked last week.

8. Prior Lake (1-1): No shame in losing to Rosemount. The physical Lakers don’t back down from anyone. They’ll be back.

9. St. Michael-Albertville (2-0): QB Jackson Greenwaldt has six touchdowns passing and three running in two games.

10. Hutchinson (2-0): The two-time defending Class 4A champs have won 28 consecutive games.
