BROOKS CARROLL

Stillwater, senior, football

A speedy slotback, the senior-to-be recently helped the Ponies to the championship of the Minnesota Vikings’ 7-on-7 Tournament.

How fast are you? I ran a 4.51 40[-yard dash] at the [Northstar Football News] combine. That was the first time I’ve been timed with electronic laser timing. My hand times have been right around 4.4 and the high 4.3s.

What have you been working on this summer? One of the major things for me is putting on weight. I’ve gained about 20 pounds, which is good for me. I’m 5-10 and 172 pounds right now. I’ve also been working on faster ball skills and pass-catching.

Where will you play during the upcoming season? From what I understand, I’m going to spend a good amount of time at slot receiver and at running back. I’ll also return kicks and punts.

What is your greatest football memory? When we beat Cretin-Derham Hall on ESPN last year. That still stands out.

How much fun was winning the Vikings’ 7-on-7 tournament? That was awesome. I knew we would be pretty good, but we hadn’t practiced much, to be honest. We thought we might win a few games, but we got rolling and won the whole thing.

What happens next? We get to go to Indianapolis with all of our expenses paid and stay in a nice hotel. They give us all kinds of Nike gear and we’ll compete against some elite athletes.

Sounds like you’ll have to start practicing a little more. We will. We’re going to take it super-seriously from now on, but the biggest thing will be to just enjoy the experience.

How will this carry over to the season? We’ll be extremely confident because we’ll have seen what everyone here can do.
