Hassenauer

J.C. Hassenauer, a 6-3, 295-pound center, has been making a name for himself after being selected the offensive line MVP at three spring combines: the adidas combine in Detroit, the Nike combine in Memphis and the Rivals.com combine in Chicago.

How has the recruiting process gone for you? So far, it’s gone very well. I’ve gotten offers from Minnesota and Vanderbilt. I’m getting other interest and getting interest matters.

What about Minnesota? I really like Minnesota. It’s cool to experience all four seasons. I’m very interested in Minnesota, but I’m very interested in Vanderbilt, too.

What special skills does a good center need? You know everything about the [offensive] line. On every play, I call out what the defense is doing and alert the other linemen.

What do recruiters like about your skills? They like my feet, my hands and my work ethic.

What have you always wanted to do on the football field? It would be pretty cool to score a touchdown as a tight end or a wide receiver. Make a one-handed catch.

Do you have the hands for that? I’ve got pretty good hands. The whole team knows I could be our second-string tight end.

What is the best part about being a lineman? It’s the nastiest position on the field. You’ve got to be nasty and physical. Every play, you know you’re going to get hit in the face and you don’t give a crap.
