Mahnomen grabs 16 point lead in 1st quarter, goes on to win easily on the road

In a shutout victory, Mahnomen prevailed against Fertile-Beltrami 37 to nothing at Fertile-Beltrami High School in Fertile on Friday. Mahnomen racked up 16 points to jump in to the lead in the first quarter. Mahnomen gained 14 unanswered points in the second quarter and held on to its lead. Halftime saw Mahnomen ahead 30 to 0. It would prove to be too much for Fertile-Beltrami. In the third quarter Mahnomen scored 7 unanswered points to keep in the lead. With both teams scoreless in the fourth quarter, Mahnomen held on to its lead, and was the winner.

In the first quarter, Mahnomen put points on the board when Trevor Haugo left defenders in the dust, running 35 yards over the goal line. Mahnomen never looked back. Rolling on, Mahnomen's Bob Bjorge blasted past the defenders 17 yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, keeping up the pressure, Jacob Pavek tossed a 10 yard pass to Nathan Hanson for a touchdown. Picking apart the secondary, Pavek hit the target again on a 10 yard pass to Jason Schoenborn for a touchdown. In the third quarter, in addition, Jon Hoffner ran the ball 2 yards for a TD.

Mahnomen extended their winning streak to five games and ended the game with a unblemished record of 5-0. Fertile-Beltrami finished the game with a record of 3-2.
