Orono forces 3 turnovers for the win on the road

Orono got the better of Holy Family Catholic 24 to 16 at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria on Friday. Orono scored 6 points to jump in to the lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Holy Family Catholic outscored Orono 13 to 6 and took over the lead. The half ended with Holy Family Catholic ahead 13 to 12, leaving Orono to regroup in the locker room. In the third quarter Orono went ahead by scoring 12 points. Holy Family Catholic failed to take the lead in the fourth quarter even though they scored 3 unanswered points, and ended up losing the game.

In the first quarter, Orono got points on the board when Ben Turnham fired a 31 yard pass to Anders Knutson for a TD. In the second quarter, Holy Family Catholic charged back when Conner Riddle rushed with the ball 9 yards to the goal line for a touchdown. Answering back, Nick Adzick scored a 89 yard touchdown for Orono on a kickoff return, taking the lead. In reply, Holy Family Catholic's Ben Baker delivered a 11 yard pass to Nick Hanscom for a touchdown, taking the lead 13 to 12. In the third quarter, pushing back, Orono's Tom Wachman rushed with the ball 5 yards to the goal line for a touchdown, going ahead 18 to 13. This was the knock out punch for Holy Family Catholic. In addition, Ben Turnham launched a 35 yard pass to Sam Challgren for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, answering back, Jonathan Coppens was good for a 15 yard field goal for Holy Family Catholic.

Orono's passing game led the way to victory. Having a huge impact in the air, Ben Turnham threw for 197 yards with 9 of 15 passes completed. In receiving, Sam Challgren grabbed three receptions for 73 yards and had one touchdown grab. Standing out on the run, Sam Challgren scrambled through the defense for 43 yards on 10 carries.

The Orono offense got some help from special teams, who scored one touchdown. Koller Adzick scored one touchdown on a kick return.

Holy Family Catholic's rushers made a valiant effort. Conner Riddle ran for 134 yards with 24 carries. Riddle ran for a TD. Ben Baker connected for 97 yards with 10 of 14 passes completed. Regrettably, Baker was picked off twice. Derek Ogren made 6 catches for 59 total yards. Jonathan Coppens was good for one field goal.

Holy Family Catholic's defense did their best to hold off Orono, allowing 101 yards rushing and 197 passing, while putting on pressure with four sacks. They also snatched up one fumble.

Holy Family Catholic finished the game with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses.
