Edina has crucial TD reception in the fourth quarter to get the narrow win

In a close game, Edina beat Andover 24 to 23 at Kuhlman Field in Edina on Thursday. Andover tallied up 14 points to jump in to the lead in the first quarter. Edina took over the lead in the second quarter with 17 points. The half ended with Edina up 17 to 14. Edina would have to hold off an attack from Andover. Andover managed to move ahead for awhile in the third quarter with 7 points. In the final quarter, Edina scored 7 points to Andover's 2 and took away the lead to snatch the win.

In the first quarter, things got going in the air when Andover's Connor Wilkie let rip a 71 yard pass to Chris Larson for a touchdown. Applying pressure from above, Wilkie completed once again with a 34 yard pass to Justin Freyholtz good for a TD. In the second quarter, in reply, Patrick LeCorre was good for a soaring 41 yard field goal for Edina. Edina fired up their running game when Mark Handberg rushed forward 2 yards for a TD. In addition, Handberg found the end zone again with a 27 yard pass to Erik Veker for a touchdown, assuming the lead at 17-14. In the third quarter, answering back in the air, Andover's Connor Wilkie threw a 11 yard pass to Alec Daniel for a score, to nab the lead at 21-17. In the fourth quarter, in return, Edina's Mark Handberg threw a 9 yard pass to Nick Boone for a touchdown, to get the lead by 3. This was the knock out punch for Andover. After that however, Andover scored a safety for two points.

Edina's offensive effort contributed to the victory.

While coming up short in scoring the Andover offense made their mark. Trying make a mark in the air, Connor Wilkie threw for 256 yards with 19 of 30 passes completed. Wilkie was intercepted once. Chris Larson made 7 catches for 120 total yards and scored on one touchdown pass. Derek McLaughlin ran for 25 yards with 17 carries.

Andover's defense did their best to hold off Edina. They picked off Edina twice.

This was the season's first game for Andover but Edina entered the game with a record of 1-0.
