Benilde-St. Margaret's athletic director Jerry Pettinger announced today that the opening kickoff for the Red Knights' football home opener has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
With near-record high temperatures predicted, school officials made the decision to push the game back 30 minutes in order for most of the game to be played after sundown when the temperatures are expected to drop into the 80s.
Last season, the team's met in the season opener and the heat index was 97 degrees at kickoff and several players succumbed to the heat.
