Wayzata vindicated as No. 1 overall in final week

The story line of Week 8 played out with No. 2 Wayzata unseating No. 1 Eden Prairie in a defensive standoff.

The defending-champion Trojans take over the top spot in the final week. They will face the winner of the quarterfinal match-up between Champlin Park and Robbinsdale Cooper.

No. 9 Osseo will host Robbinsdale Armstrong in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A, Section 5 playoffs. The Orioles capped of their regular season with a wild win – their seventh in a row – over Northwest Suburban rival Blaine.

Osseo and Wayzata could meet in the Section 5 championship with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

Despite posting perfect seasons, both Lakeville North and Shakopee failed to move up in the rankings.

The Panthers will host the winner of the Class 5A, Section 1 quarterfinal match-up between Lakeville South and Rochester Mayo. The Cougars – after losing two of their last three games – travel to the Spartans on Tuesday.

No. 10 Shakopee will host Missota Conference rival Chanhassen on Tuesday in the Class 5A, Section 6 quarterfinals. The Sabers eked past the Storm by two points early in the regular season.

Even with a win, the Sabers face an uphill battle with both Minnetonka and Eden Prairie in their section.
