Skippers running back Rashad Cohen broke a bone in his foot

Another week, another critical personnel loss for Minnetonka’s football team.

Senior running back Rashad Cohen, the team leader with 458 yards rushing, is out for the remainder of the season with a broken bone in his foot.

His father, Chris Cohen, said the injury occurred in the Skippers’ 16-0 loss at No. 1 Eden Prairie on Oct. 6. Cohen did not play in last week’s victory against Duluth East.

“They thought it was turf toe originally,” Chris Cohen wrote in an email. “He even tried practicing most of last week which in retrospect probably wasn’t the best thing to do. It is supposed to be a six-week time span to heal.”

Cohen’s injury came one week after starting quarterback Scott Benedict suffered a broken ankle in a loss at No. 2 Wayzata. The Skippers (5-2) finish the regular season Wednesday against Hopkins.

Though his football season is finished, Cohen still has the prospects of track and field to keep his spirits high. As a sophomore he placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at the Class 2A meet. Last season, he qualified for state in the 110 and 300 hurdles events but failed to reach the finals.

“Hopefully it heals and he is 100 percent by the time we start getting in shape for track,” said Chris Cohen, the Skippers track and field coach.
