Hutchinson made up for an early hiccup by scoring five touchdowns and not giving another in Thursday’s Class 4A semifinals.

The defending champion scored on three straight drives after giving up an interception on their opening drive. Quarterback Marcus Hahn rushed for two touchdowns and threw for one.

Jake Wendland’s two interceptions ruined a pair of Delano drives into Hutchinson territory. Adam Elliott also had an interception and Jayden Fleck scored Hutchinson’s first touchdown.

Tory Adams put the game out of reach when he ran 19 yards and knocked the helmet off a defender for a 28-9 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Key of the game

Delano got within six yards of tying the game, 14-14, late in the second quarter, but instead found itself trailing 21-7 after failing to convert in the red zone and then missing a field goal attempt. Hutchinson responded with an 80-yard touchdown run by Hahn on the ensuing play. Delano’s offense didn’t score the rest of the game.

Quote

“We did that the first game of the season, against these guys. We fell behind 14-[0], right away. We overcame it the first time. We knew we could do it again. We answered right away and just kind of kept going and never took the pedal off the metal.”

-Hutchinson senior defensive end/wide receiver Jake Wendland in response to the early deficit.

One thing to know

Hutchinson extends its win streak to 25 games with the win and is one game from back-to-back undefeated seasons. Delano’s two losses this year were to Hutchinson. It lost 30-14 in the first meeting.
