RECAP: Roseville beat previously undefeated Maple Grove 24-21 in Thursday’s second Class 6A state football tournament quarterfinal game at TCF Bank Stadium.

With the victory, the Raiders advance to play No. 2 seed Rosemount at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Metrodome.

On Thursday night, the teams’ offensive styles were as much of a contrast as the all-black worn by Roseville’s student section and the white-out by their Maple Grove counterparts. Maple Grove ran for big yards. Roseville quarterback Jacques Perra completed 22 of 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns. Favorite target Jesper Horsted caught 19 balls for 293 yards and two scores.

KEY OF THE GAME: The kicking game made the final difference. Tied 21-21, Maple Grove missed a 35-yard field goal while Roseville’s Jose Salinas booted a 26-yarder through the uprights with 16 seconds to play.

QUOTE: “At the end of the third quarter I knew it would come down to this. The offensive got the ball down to where I had an opportunity.” -- Roseville kicker Jose Salinas

ONE THING TO KNOW: Maple Grove, the No. 2 seed, was 10-0 coming into Thursday’s game. “It was one of those game both teams moved the ball up and down the field,” Crimson coach Matt Lombardi said. “Kids played their hearts out and Roseville was better today.”
