The extra yards Cretin-Derham Hall wide receiver Aitor Flood fought for in the final minute led to a 10-7 road victory over No. 2-ranked East Ridge on Friday night. Quarterback Ricardo Johnson connected with Flood for 15 yards and the receiver broke two tackles to get an extra three yards and into the end zone with 24.3 seconds left in the game.

East Ridge’s lone touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Austin Kamrath in the second quarter. The Raptors entered the game averaging more than 40 points per game.

Cretin’s first points were a 42-yard field goal from Sam Clark.

East Ridge was in field goal position with 2:34 left in the game, but went for it on fourth-and-5 from the 20-yard line and turned it over on downs.

Key of the game: Cretin-Derham Hall’s defense allowed only one touchdown against one of the state’s highest-scoring programs. The Raiders did it without top defensive recruit Jashon Cornell, who was out with a concussion. The biggest stop came during the Raptors’ final drive that ended on the edge of the red zone. Cornell said the defense was the best he’s seen it all year.

Quote: “We brought that upon ourselves. Anytime we’d get something going we’d get a penalty and hurt ourselves badly. That shouldn’t happen.” -- East Ridge sophomore quarterback Seth Green on his team’s first loss of the season and its nine penalties. He was 9-for-19 with 123 yards.

Thing to know: East Ridge was without its top running back Nick Leach. The senior tore his ACL in his left knee last week against Park. He is out for the season. Despite the injury, Leach entered Friday night leading the Suburban East Conference with 11 touchdowns. His 667 yards were tied for the most in the conference. His absence proved to hurt the Raptors’ offensive effort.
