Mound Westonka at St. Croix Lutheran
7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13

Mound Westonka has turned the corner since posting a 2-6 regular season record in 2014. The White Hawks went 8-0 in both 2015 and 2016, and are off to a 6-0 start this fall. However, each of the past two seasons have come to an abrupt halt in the first round of the playoffs.

This week, the White Hawks (6-0, 5-0) travel to perennial Class 3A powerhouse St. Croix Lutheran (6-0, 5-0), a team with six consecutive state tournament appearances and titles in 2011 and 2013.

The No. 1-3A Crusaders will be tough to handle, particularly on offense. Junior quarterback Jonathan Liesener and senior running back Mike Stern continued their strong seasons last week by combining for all five touchdowns in a 35-0 victory over St. Paul Highland Park.

Mound Westonka looks to lean on senior running back Bobby Sweet, who has rushed for a team-high 969 yards and nine touchdowns.
