The Chanhassen offense must have just needed a little bit more time to get warmed up.

The Storm bus got stuck in traffic on the way to Coon Rapids Friday and arrived at the stadium just 25 minutes before the scheduled kickoff. After an abbreviated pre-game routine, the Storm were forced to punt on their first three possessions. From there they scored touchdowns on three of their next four drives en route to a 28-7 victory over the Cardinals.

“I had been looking all week because I’d never been to Coon Rapids. It kept saying an hour and 15 minutes, an hour and 20. … It took us about two hours and 10 minutes,” Chanhassen coach Mike Bailey said. “I have to thank the Coon Rapids administration for being so hospitable and understanding.”

Quarterback Jacob Miller returned to the lineup for the Storm after missing the last three weeks with a leg injury and scored three touchdowns. The shifty junior sprawled across the goal line from one yard out for the game’s first score with 1:09 left in the first half. He added second-half scores of 25 and 6 yards on his way to a 132-yard effort.

The bus trek didn’t seem to bother the Chanhassen defense. The Storm (4-2) held the Cardinals, who had averaged 26 points per game during its four-game winning streak, to just over 100 total yards.

“We got off the bus and we just started rolling. They got the ball and our defense was just ready to play right out of the gate,” Bailey said. “The offense has put them in some bad spots and they’ve kept playing their hearts out. Tonight our offense arrived and kept our defense off the field and our defense is fantastic.”

Adam Offerdahl recovered a fumble in the end zone for Coon Rapids’ lone touchdown.
