Spring Grove at Grand Meadow
7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19

League and section titles have eluded Spring Grove despite its recent run of success. Since winning their second consecutive championship in the former Southeast Conference in 2012, the Lions have haven’t been able to overcome rival Grand Meadow in the standings or playoffs as the Superlarks have developed into one of the state’s elite 9-Man programs.

Grand Meadow shared the league crown with Spring Grove in 2013 after defeating the Lions in their regular-season matchup, and the Superlarks have won the last two titles outright. Grand Meadow has also defeated Spring Grove in four consecutive Section 1 championship games en route to three straight state titles, and the Superlarks are riding a 43-game winning streak which includes seven victories over the Lions.

Will this season be more of the same? Wednesday’s matchup will provide a partial answer as No. 2-ranked Spring Grove (7-0, 7-0) visits No. 1 Grand Meadow (7-0, 7-0) with the league title at stake once again in a game that could also portent another postseason bout.
