Mankato West at Rochester Mayo
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30

A year ago, Rochester Mayo had a 4-0 record going into its Week 5 matchup with Mankato West.

The Spartans lost the game, sending them on a five-game skid to close the season. This Friday, they host the No. 2-5A Scarlets in non-district play hoping to avoid a similar result.

Mayo (4-0, 2-0) has been sharper this season, surrendering six points or fewer in half of their games. That defense will be tested against a Mankato West team averaging 40.5 points per game.

The Scarlets (4-0, 2-0) have scored at least 28 points in every game this season, led by quarterback Robert Meidl and his 11 rushing and four passing touchdowns.

Meidl threw a touchdown and ran for three more in Mankato West's 42-14 win over Mayo last season, which was the Scarlets' third straight victory over Spartans.
