Alexandria at Monticello
7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2

Fans of high-scoring football were treated to exciting play from Monticello and Alexandria last year, and they could be in for more of the same this season.

Both teams lit up the scoreboard, with the Magic and Cardinals averaging 38.8 and 35.9 points per game, respectively. And the programs return many of the players who were featured in last season’s matchup, which ended in a 44-38 Monticello victory after the Magic scored the go-ahead touchdown with 12 seconds remaining.

Alexandria senior Jaran Roste was one of the state's top passers last season, but proved early that he was a dual-threat quarterback after rushing for four TDs against Monticello.

The Magic return their top runner in senior Ryder Beckman, who rushed for 1,435 yards and 17 touchdowns a year ago. He finished with 169 of his team's 333 rushing yards in the matchup against the Cardinals.
