Game at a glance

Recap: Breck’s defense was effective early, but SMB’s strong rushing attack gained momentum in the victory, which moved the first-year co-op team to 7-0. Running back Michael O’Shea rushed for four touchdowns, while wide receiver Johnny Erickson provided a spark on reverse plays. SMB also found rushing production from quarterback Samuel Pickerign, who ran for a 1-yard touchdown. SMB includes football players from Blake, Minnehaha Academy, St. Paul Academy, Mounds Park Academy and Hope Academy.

Key of the game: O’Shea’s playmaking. In the second quarter, the senior made a few defenders miss before breaking away for a 34-yard rushing touchdown.

Quote: “The most games I’ve ever won in a season is two. …This is just the best feeling, the best season we could have.” — O’Shea, who attends St. Paul Academy

One thing to know: Breck quarterback David Roddy has potential. The freshman moves well in the open field and delivered a nice touchdown pass to speedy receiver Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman in the third quarter.

First report

It took more than a quarter for SMB to score at Breck on Friday night, but it was clear early on Michael O'Shea was going to have a big night.

The first three plays of the game were rushes from the Wolfpack's senior running back and one of the carries went for a 20-plus yard gain. O'Shea produced much more for SMB before the night was over, rushing for four touchdowns in a 39-6 victory.

Breck's defense hung tight early on and nearly pulled off an impressive goal-line stand in the second quarter. But SMB's strong rushing attack was too much for it to handle.

While the Wolfpack won in lopsided fashion, the Breck tandem of freshman quarterback David Roddy and senior wide receiver Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman provided a few sparks. Roddy looked poised beyond his years at times against an undefeated team. Chiaokhiao-Bowman caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Roddy after returning a kickoff 89 yards.

SMB is a co-op program between St. Paul Academy, Minnehaha Academy and Blake.
