Underwood at Hillcrest Lutheran
7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2

As if Underwood hadn't gone through enough of a gauntlet in 9-man football the past two weeks, defeating No. 6 Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 22-14 and Verndale 24-21, the No.4 Rockets are now tasked with taking on No. 7 Hillcrest Lutheran.

The teams are undefeated in West South 1 subdistrict play, but this is the final league game for the Comets, which means they can clinch a subdistrict title with a victory. Underwood could clinch at least a share of a championship with a win this week, and a victory Week 8 versus Bertha-Hewitt would give the Rockets the title outright.

Kyler Newman leads the Comets' ground attack while quarterback Sean McGuire's 173.8 passing yards per game offer another good offensive option.

Underwood has a five-game winning streak against Hillcrest Lutheran which started with a section championship game victory in 2010.
