Recap: Wayzata’s Jake Krull stepped in front of an errant pass at the Prior Lake 28-yard line and ran it in for the winning score with just five minutes left in a wild, come-from-behind victory. It wasn’t pretty. After quarterback Jake Marsh’s 8-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening possession, Wayzata went more than 30 minutes without scoring a point and had four turnovers that led to 14 of Prior Lake’s 17 points. The two teams combined for seven turnovers. But Prior Lake’s mistakes came late in the game. Krull’s interception was one of two turnovers the Trojans forced in the game’s final five minutes. Wayzata (3-0) scored 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Key of the game: Trailing 17-10 with 8:20 to play, Wayzata drove 80 yards in 1 minute and 37 seconds, capped by Joey Ocholik’s 5-yard touchdown reception. The Trojans failed to convert the two-point conversion, but the score shifted the momentum. Krull’s interception came on the ensuing Prior Lake possession.

Quote: “I definitely didn’t help us by putting us in some unfortunate situations,” said Marsh, who threw two interceptions, “but at the same time, our defense held really strong — just unbelievable. ... Nights like this are why we play football.”

One thing to know: Prior Lake (2-1) managed just one offensive touchdown on the night. It was scored on a 3-yard plunge by 305-pound defensive end Jamahl Johnson. It was Johnson’s first carry of the season.
