Mankato West has been one of the most dominant programs in Class 5A since 2012. The Scarlets went 12-1 and won the state title last year, but the lone blemish came courtesy of Rochester John Marshall, which defeated Mankato West 21-9 in Week 8.

The No. 1-5A Scarlets enter the week having defeated crosstown rival Mankato East 35-10 in the 43rd annual Jug football game. The No. 7-5A Rockets are coming off a 27-21 overtime loss to Owatonna.

Senior running back Van Neils was Mankato West's workhorse last week, piling up 143 rushing yards. Rochester John Marshall counters with senior running back Cazz Martin, who had for 107 rushing yards and two TDs in Week 2.
