Game at a glance

DeLaSalle stormed out to a 48-point lead in the first half -- scoring on offense, defense and special teams -- in a rout of previously undefeated Cloquet in the Class 4A quarterfinal at Chisago Lakes High School.

Senior receiver Marquise Bridges and freshman running back Sage Booker each had three touchdowns in the first half alone. Booker filled in at halfback after starter James King, Jr. went down with an ankle injury early. King returned to the field only on defense.

DeLaSalle pulled a number of its starters to start the second half, including quarterback Billy Hart, Bridges and star lineman Drayton Carlberg.

At the half, Hart was 9-for-11 for 175 yards and two touchdowns and led all rushers with 50 yards on the ground.

DeLaSalle, which went ahead 28-0 after running just 11 plays on offense, held Cloquet to 77 yards in the first half. It forced three first-half turnovers - one fumble and two interceptions. One of the interceptions was returned for a touchdown by senior linebacker Isaac Hodge.

“It was a great week of preparation,” said Bridges, who had a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first half. “We prepared well, learned everything they were going to do and it was just execution after that.”

Key of the game: The Islanders racked up 465 yards of total offense.

One thing to know: DeLaSalle has won one state title, in 1999, and is making its third consecutive and 10th overall state tournament appearance. The Islanders will face No. 1-ranked and two-time defending champion Hutchinson in the semifinals. “We’ve been waiting for this for years,” Bridges said. “Now we finally get the chance.”
