Rosemount standouts Jackson Erdmann and Dimitri Williams prepared for Wayzata expecting they would play all four quarters Friday for only the fourth time this season.

They weren’t needed.

Rosemount, playing at home, put up an impressive 21 first-quarter points and then matched the total in the second quarter en route to a 49-14 blowout in a Class 6A crossover game. Rosemount (10-0), state tournament runner-up last season, makes an emphatic return.

“It was awesome,” said Erdmann, Rosemount’s senior quarterback. “We kept getting great field position and pounding it in.”

Wayzata’s opening drive ended with a Rosemount punt block. Williams ran for a touchdown to make the score 7-0.

Just like that, the template was established.

Rosemount continued to exploit Wayzata’s special teams miscues and responded with rushing touchdowns.

On the ensuing kickoff, Williams recovered a Wayzata fumble. He later scored from 18 yards out. 14-0.

The Irish ended the next Wayzata (3-7) drive with a second blocked punt. One play later, Lowell Green ran 10 yards for a touchdown. 21-0.

“We saw some things on film we wanted to get after,” Irish coach Jeff Erdmann said of the blocked punts.

Rosemount scored its first three touchdowns on only seven offensive plays. And the Irish weren’t finished.

After building a 35-0 lead on scoring runs from Erdmann and Williams, Rosemount recovered Wayzata’s muffed kickoff return attempt.
Williams ran for his fourth touchdown. 42-0.

“Bad plays sometimes are catchy,” Wayzata coach Brad Anderson said. “We didn’t give ourselves much of a chance early but give them credit — they made their plays.”
