Game at a glance

Recap: Down two touchdowns against Robbinsdale Cooper after three quarters, Bloomington Jefferson roared back to tie the game at Bloomington Stadium in regulation before junior Ryan Murray kicked a 27-yard field goal in overtime to complete the comeback. The victory moved the Jaguars (5-1) into first place in the Metro West Conference standings.

The third quarter ended with Cooper ahead 14-0 while Jefferson had just one third-down conversion. Then the Jaguars offense got on track. Senior quarterback Zachary Ubben hit senior Ted Kalina for a 21-yard touchdown on a fourth-down play to cut Cooper’s lead to 14-7. Senior running back Colton Myles tied the game on a 15-yard touchdown run.

Cooper got the ball first in overtime but failed to score on four tries from the Jefferson 10-yard line. Murray slipped and fell on the follow-through of his game-winning kick, but even from his bottom he knew the kick would put his team on top.

Key of the game: Jefferson doesn’t drive for the tying score without senior Patrick Gruggen running a fake punt 18 yards to the Cooper 20-yard line.

One thing to know: Both Cooper (4-2) touchdowns came on fourth-down conversions. Junior quarterback Phillip Howard threw for both Hawks’ scores.
