Will Rains did not go away despite a nearly 90-minute weather delay.

Rains scored four touchdowns to power top-ranked Eden Prairie to a 34-14 victory over Lake Conference rival Edina on Friday night at Edina High School.

Rains, a 5-11, 215-pound senior running back, finished the night with 104 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries for the Eagles (5-0), who are ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press’ Class 6A poll.

Rains is playing in his first season at Eden Prairie after transferring from Eastview, where he led the Lightning to back-to-back Class 6A state tournaments and finished with roughly 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns for his career at his former Apple Valley high school.

Eden Prairie coach Mike Grant said Rains is more than a bruising running back.

"He catches the ball pretty well, too," Grant said. "It was a hard-hitting game."

Rains wasn’t shy about delivering the hard hits to the Hornets’ defense but used his speed to take a screen pass 47 yards for the opening score. He finished with three catches.

The Eagles’ offense did not slow down after the weather delay with Rains scoring three rushing touchdowns.

Eden Prairie now heads into a bye week, and Grant said his team’s next opponent, Minnetonka, shouldn’t expect the Eagles to continue employing a powerful running game and stout defense.

"We can get ready to play Minnetonka and add a few more things offensively," Grant said. "You know, we might throw it 30 times against (Minnetonka)."
