Chaska quarterback Justin Arnold

Chaska quarterback Justin Arnold made his case for the title of State’s Best Quarterback on Friday, rushing for 124 yards and four touchdowns in the Hawks’ 27-13 victory over Chanhassen.

Arnold’s performance earned him at least one Top QB vote, albeit a biased one.

“He’s the best quarterback in the state, really underrated guy, he gave us a great win,” Hawks’ offensive tackle Bronson Dovich said after the victory at Chaska High School.

Arnold, who has a scholarship offer to play football at Minnesota State University-Mankato, has been helping Chaska win plenty of games in his three years as a starter.

In 2013, he led the Hawks to a 11-1 record and a state Class AAAAA tournement berth where they suffered their first loss of the year. Brainerd defeated Chaska 20-19 in the semifinals.

Arnold threw for 1,525 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 86 of 149 passes in his junior season. He also ran for 1,125 yard and nine touchdowns on 152 carries.

The senior has continued racking up yards at a torrid pace this season. He has run for 370 yards while throwing for 331 yards and five touchdowns in three games.

Arnold didn’t need to use arm against Chanhassen (2-2), relying instead on his running to help the Hawks (2-2) stomp the Storm.

The senior scored on a 4-yard run late in the second quarter, giving the Hawks a 7-6 lead into halftime.

Arnold returned from the break and ran wild, finding the end zone on a 19-yard run in the third quarter and adding two more in the fourth including one on an 8-yard run with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Arnold is a player who wants to make the big plays, especially when his team needs one, Chaska head coach Bryan Dahl said.

“We rely on that and people feed off that,” Dahl said. “He did a great job for us, again, tonight.”
